We bought this TV through Amazon at Christmas. Now after four months of ownership I can say with full authority that we are happy that we have our own. I note with satisfaction that the price is now more than we paid which means that the market is speaking in agreement with us. 

I studied the market for a long time before choosing UN55B8500 Samsung. I almost bought a Panasonic plasma Kuro on the basis of expert evidence that the Kuro had the best picture. Although it may be true the image quality near the Kuro 8500 and every other quality is much better. Thin frames and clean design to do TV is part of our clean modern furnished living room with ease. I fixed it on the wall and hid the wires / cables inside the wall. It is beautiful! It is so flush with the wall as our original images that surround him. There are times when I leave the original picture or photo file on your hard work in the opposite BluRay player let this monitor is a work of art. 

Decreases the contrast outside the center is much less than a few reviews seem to have. For us this is a non-issue and watch TV from all over the place and even far beyond the center. 

We had no problems with anything. 

The sound is good and we use the TVs speakers. And audiophile and I’m very special high-end audio system in the same room but it’s just music and is not suitable for connecting the TV. I’ll be the first to complain if the sound from the TV was not good enough to watch TV. The film is fine the sound of it but I really should add something to fill. I mean you know the sound is OK is not something to complain about. 

The only thing I would change is the Samsung glossy frame. This project will look better with a flat or satin finish. Glossy screen viewing is not a problem. These are just a frame around the stresses that each little wave at the finish line when the light reflected from the axis. This is an obvious design flaw that good design department had to be discontinued at the beginning of the process. I am surprised that Samsung allows you to get out the door. This is not justice what is undeniably one of the best consumer TVs which have been so far. 

Five stars for a great product and by the way buying through Amazon is the best way to go.

Best TV EVER!!!

I am a firm believer in buying quality, so I held out for the Samsung UN55B8500 for my first flat screen. The picture is the best I have ever seen. Every detail is top notch. The speakers are rear facing but are loud and clear, but I have not wall mounted it yet. 

No regrets. Buy one while you can still find it. The 2010 models are out and starting to flood out the 2009 models in the distribution chain.

We recently moved and didn’t want to go with another projection system for our home theatre, so compared all available LCD, LED/LCD and Plasma TVs. We found the Samsung 8500 55″ to be the best picture available. In addition, the low profile and on-wall mounting system made this the best choice for us. 

We’ve had the TV for about a month now, and the whole family loves it, and no-one misses the Runco projection system we used to have. Although smaller at 55″ (our Runco screen was 110″), the clarity, brightness (without having to darken the room), appearance, light weight, low power consumption, and thin profile make this our preference by far!Awesome

If you can take the hit to the wallet you have to get one of these. Better than I expected! Great picture.

Lost Your Wallet Travelling?

Do you know what you carry in your wallet?

If you are like me, then you keep your most documents in your wallet such as money, drivers licence, credit cards, ID cards etc. So, if you loose or have your wallet/bag stolen, then the impact of such a loss is tremendous. Although we don’t like to think of the possibility things do happen which are out our control so it is best to adopt strategies that will minimise the impact of such loss.

The first obvious strategy is to keep the contents of your wallet/bag to the bare minimum. Only carry the amount of money that you plan to use that day with a little extra. If you are travelling in a developing country such as Bolivia where they mainly deal in cash leave your credit cards with your passport. If you do need a credit card then carry one with you and leave the others back at the hotel safe or where ever your passports are being kept.

I am not a believer of having multiple credit cards but for travel it is a good strategy. I strongly recommend you have two different credit cards which allow you draw money out. That way, if you do loose one, then you will still have the other one safe and sound at the hotel. Make sure that for travel purposes that your partners card has a different number that way if one need to cancel one the other is still active.

Please take photocopies (front and back) of all important cards e.g. credit cards, ID cards and any other official documents. Photocopies will provide you with immediate access to those crucial phone numbers on the back of your card as you won’t always be able to find a phonebook.  Further, photocopies of your ID cards will you enable you to exchange money i.e. traveller cheques and get your ID card replaced easier.

Avoid centralising your funds i.e. have a combination of cash and travellers cheques available for emergencies. If you are only taking credit cards then you need to make sure that you have enough money to get you by for approximately two weeks. The reason for such a long period is that in some parts of the world it may take anything up to six weeks for your replacement card to arrive by either the post.  We had ours delivered by courier and that took over two weeks.

Have a phone card or Skype credits available to call overseas so you can get your cards cancelled and re-issued. Although, most of the financial institutions do have a reverse charge number the problem we found was that the telephone operators either did not provide reverse call services or the queues were so long that the line kept dropping out which cost us more money.

Finally and perhaps the most obvious, carry your wallet on the front of our person. I was carrying mine in my back pocket. I think it became dislodged when I was leaning with my posterior on top of a horizontal metal bar while crouching in a crowded bus.

So enjoy your trip and please safe guard yourself from a possible financial disaster when you travel.

Travel Tips

• Clean out your bag or wallet and only keep the essential.
• Carry on the money that you require for that day plus a bit extra
• Only carry your credit card when you need it
• Have at least two different types of credit cards or credit cards with different numbers
• Only carry one credit card at a time and leave the other back with your passport (safe)
• Take photocopies of your cards and documents
• Have cash and/or travellers cheques for emergencies – you should have at least 2 weeks worth.
• Have a phone card or Skype credits to make those important calls back home
